We had Jason's cater our wedding at the San Clemente mansion 2 weeks ago. They were the caterer contracted with our venue VIP mansion. I have to say (and my guests say so too), that the food was the best ever!! From start to finish, the food was super delicious and cooked to perfection! On a crazy day such as a wedding, I did not have ANY issues with Jason's. They arrived on time, were very professional, and made sure all our guests were happy. One of the servers even came by the bridal suite to make sure the wedding party was eating and drinking too! In terms of the tasting, we were very pleased with our experience. They have a nice, romantic set up in Downtown Santa Ana. They usually have a few tasting going on at the same time so make sure you book ahead of time. They included tasting for a variety of drinks, appetizers, entrees and sides. They are very organized and give you a folder to take notes as you try the food. The servers are prompt and professional as well. I made a ton of changes to the menu and they were very accommodating. If you have any event requiring catering, definitely give Jason's Catering a call!!

Ali from Jason's Catered Events was my life saver! I was not a bride with a super high budget, but it didn't matter to them. They treated me from day 1 as if I had a million dollars and were more then happy to work with all my requests. They were incredibly flexible and everyone loved the wedding food (which was a brunch buffet). I had so many compliments about the food and so many people told me they went back for more! What was lovely day of the wedding was they were all so on top of everything, and they even had a waiter sent out to us with refreshments and appetizers when my husband and I were off taking pictures--impressive because it was hot, the middle of the day and she had to find us in the middle of the arboretum. When we got to the reception the food was already set out for us so beautifully and we got to eat! Ali was also amazing because I had a lot of communication problems with our Venue but as they were a preferred vendor she stepped in to help us with questions and even helped us get a hold of the venue when we couldn't. Every time I made a crazy request she was also there, and always checking in with the planning process. They were so on top of everything that I was blown away, and I would highly recommend them no matter your budget! They were low stress, delicious and so warm and friendly. I felt through the entire process that all they cared about was making sure the wedding day was going to be perfect, and that my husband and I were happy. I loved them and if I could give them a higher rating I would!

Jason's catered my wedding at the Newland Barn and it was amazing! Their online menu was a bit confusing so I called and spoke with their coordinator Ali. She set up a tasting for us and went over the details. They provided cucumber water at our ceremony and reception. The food was SO good and reasonably priced for what you are getting! At our wedding their staff did a great job setting up and facilitating the services. Many of our guests told us they LOVED the food! I couldn't be happier! They also provide rentals if you're at a venue like the Newland Barn where it is bare. Prices were reasonable compared to most caterers ($50 ish per person, 4 appetizers, salad, dinner and coffee/tea).

3.5 stars really. Just went for our tasting at Jason's catering this past weekend and for the first time I was able to share it with my parents AND 2 of my bridesmaids/foddies/fellow yelpers/high school friends. :D I really wanted them to be a part of the process since their opinion means a lot to me. My contact was Ali, who at first I didn't hear back from in awhile, and then it got a little better. I only mention this because I'm looking for a company that will get back to you at least within a few business days. The tasting room in located in Downtown Santa Ana in the Santora Artist Building on the Second Floor. There's metered parking all over or you can park in the structure on 3rd and Broadway (they do validate). The setup in the tasting room is like a cute little restaurant. Several tastings were going on. But of course we were seated right away and started off with their strawberry agua fresca. Appetizers: Mini nachos - Just okay, and really tiny. Shrimp scampi skewers - Good, but really small shrimp. Ka ta tong - So-so chicken curry, again small. Skirt steak crostini - Good! And a good size. Kalbi beef skewers - I liked it. But it was split among our group. Chicken tamales - Mines was okay, but the rest of my party felt it was dry and too much masa. Bruschetta di pompadoro - LOVE. Ahi sashimi tartar - No thanks. Not a fan. Watermelon and feta on a spoon - Not for us. Ono ceviche - No. Salads: California - No thank you. Mandarin - Good! Compressed? - Good. Cesar - Normal. Good if you like Cesar, but it's not for me. Entrees: Chicken milanese - Good. Braised short rib - So-so, but a negative from everyone else. Roasted chicken - Nom! Basa fish - Yum. Fiance would of liked it without the cilantro sauce. Chicken saltimbocca - Yay! Good too. Filet mignon - Super chewy. Did not like. Sides: Good, but nothing to rave about. It's all about the mains! Dessert: Tuxedo cake - Delish! I think everyone licked their plates clean. Overall it was a fun afternoon with the ones I love and the food was good/okay. Surprised we loved all their chicken dishes, but wasn't too pleased on the beef mains. We want beef as an option at our wedding. Their bar price is a little high compared to the other caterers I have tried so far. But still an option as a caterer for our wedding. Waiting on their proposal. The search continues!

We had Jason's cater our wedding in July 2015 at the Monrovia Historical Museum. Throughout the entire process they were fantastic! Our coordinator Ali went out of her way to ensure our wedding was successful. If you want great food and exceptional service, this is the caterer for you!

Planning a wedding can be stressful when you want everything to be just so. But a call to Jason's will give you confidence and relief that you do not need to worry about the meal portion of the reception. We just returned from a tasting that could best be described as one of the more pleasurable sales meetings we have ever attended. Adrianna was our coordinator and she handled every detail and question with complete professionalism with a level of experience that meets or exceeds our every expectation. Steve spent a great deal of time with us as well, not only assisting in serving the various dishes, but explaining them to tease our palate, even before the first bite. Each appetizer was more delicious than the last and could easily replace the dinner itself if one was so inclined. But the entrees were really in a class by themselves. Not only was the meat cooked to perfection, but it was seasoned in subtle artistry that enhanced every mouthful and the sides were spectacularly prepared and arranged. Jason came over to the table and spent a lot of time explaining his philosophy and mission of his new location at the Orange Circle. In short, we all had the best time visiting and tasting and talking about the upcoming celebration and left with the satisfaction that the decision to book Jason's will showcase a true culinary artist in one of the most important dinners we will ever host. I would give it 6 stars if they would let me.

Jason's Catered Events catered for our nieces wedding and we were more than pleased with their service. Everybody loved the food. Jason's team is also very professional and always available for any requirement we had. Jason's Catered Events delivers high quality all the way around. The food, service and the staff are exceptional. Ali Contreras went beyond the call of duty & helped with whatever we needed help with. She kept us calm, cook & collected during a stressful time. Highly recommended!

My husband and I just recently got married at the Richard Nixon Library. We chose Jason's Catered Events to do the catering for our wedding and we were blown away with their service words cannot express how happy we were with everything. Adriana is so professional and was such a pleasure to work with. We met with her a few times aside from our tastings, design, final walkthrough and she was always very pleasant, friendly, and enthusiastic. She accommodated everything we wanted to add or take away from our menu and our floor plan set up. During the last two weeks before the wedding I emailed her more than ever to ask questions or to make last minute changes and she answered all of my questions and accommodated the changes my husband and I needed to make without any hassle. Ceci, our wedding day concierge, was really great too she was always checking to make sure my husband and I were taken care of in regards to drinks, appetizers, and food. The bartenders were also great our guests were so impressed with their bartending pouring skills. The food was amazing! A lot of our guests even went back for seconds. The staff packed my husband and me a meal to go too. We also got a complimentary candy station after booking with them at the Richard Nixon Library's open house a very sweet treat.

Jason's Catering catered our wedding as part of our wedding package. Their team is super nice and super accommodating. We had a tasting beforehand at their Santa Ana location, which was nice and they allowed us to try all different kinds of food. If you're looking for a good caterer, try Jason's Catering. Also, if you're looking for Jason's Catering for wedding services, they typically showcase at the Nixon Library during their wedding expos. I highly recommend you seeing them there first, try out their food and see if it suits what you're looking for.

Jason catered my event of 300 people and the food was fantastic. The chicken was star of the evening, it was very moist and delicious. All my guest were raving about the quality of the food and the hor dourves. His staff was very professional and Jason himself is a delight to work with. Definitely recommend Jason to cater your next event or wedding.

Jason's Catered Events blew our mind away! We had 300 guests at the Nixon Library and they did an AMAZING job. It all started with working with Adriana, who really focused on every single detail that we wanted, which carried on to the actual wedding day, where everything was done to perfection. The food was delicious, as everyone kept raving about the salad, salmon and grilled steak! The service was perfect as the staff was very attentive and professional. I strongly recommend hiring Jason's Catered Events for any event, but especially for their weddings! They really perfected outstanding service.

If you want absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious food at your wedding, stop looking and hire Jason. I attended a wedding in the summer that Jason catered and it was the absolute hands-down best food I'd ever had at a wedding... saying "best food at a wedding" doesn't do it justice because typically wedding food is so horrific that the bar for "wedding food" is incredibly low. So Jason's Catering shouldn't even be in the "wedding food" category. It's just plain good food. The wedding I attended served fried chicken and they had a mashed potato bar. There was other food too, but all I can remember is the perfectly cooked friend chicken. Crispy on the outside, moist and juicy on the inside. And the mashed potato bar was heaven. So I hired Jason for my wedding. We did 3 buffet stations: exhibition style station where they were flambeing shrimp, a filet mignon station with a mashed potato bar, and a pasta station. Almost every guest I talked to RAVED about the food and how it was the best wedding food they'd ever had. Unfortunately I was running around so much that I didn't get a chance to eat any of it! Jason provided a concierge that kept bringing me plates of food, but then I'd get pulled away before I had a chance to take a bite. That's my biggest regret of my wedding! However, I trust the reviews of my guests. Some of them are real foodies and they kept going on and on about how good the food was, especially the filet. In addition, the wait staff was attentive and professional. Jason ran the kitchen flawlessly. We had no logistical problems, everything was like clockwork. I would hire Jason again a thousand times and would recommend him to anyone.

I hired Jason's to cater a client appreciation event for work. They were highly recommended and their pricing was lower than several other well-known caterers we shopped for the event. Because of our timeline, I booked them without even trying the food first. They were excellent. We had strolling stations including an antipasto station, a mashed potato bar, a salad shaker station and a carving station. The food was delicious and well-presented. Everyone raved about it and our clients were very impressed. Ali worked with me to tweak the menu to our needs, and her suggestions were very helpful. We had tons of food, and everything was top-notch. I felt like there was plenty of staff, and they were helpful, friendly and hardworking. I never saw empty dishes laying around. They were eager to take care of us and seemed like they were enjoying themselves, which makes the party more fun. The best part of working with Jason's was Ali, who managed our event. She was so calm and reassuring. She really seemed focused on giving us what we wanted--she was always saying, "No problem." It's hard to be stressed out when you're working with someone like that. She personally took care of me during the event. Honestly, I can't think of anything I would want done differently. They were just perfect.

I had my wedding at the Richard Nixon Library last year in the fall. The catering planning process was absolutely amazing!! Adriana was such a blessing from above! She was helpful, thoughtful, accessible and most of all patient (even though I asked the most annoying questions, changed things like a thousand times and called her every minute of the day. In my mind I was the ONLY bride that excited in the universe at that time!! LOL) The Food. The food was scrumptious!!!! Our friends and family are talking about till this day!! The service personnel was professional, warm and friendly. I will go with Jason's catered Events for ALL of my catering needs!!!

Although Jasons Catering was the first catering company we had a tasting with, they offered us a package too good to pass up. After meeting Adri (our catering coordinator), tasting the food, and seeing the menu and pricing options, we knew Jasons would provide us with everything that we were looking for and more. Adri made the whole process incredibly easy and stress-free. She listened to what we wanted and she customized a dinner buffet comprised of stations that offered a wide variety of food options, including a dessert crepe station. Their service was professional and reliable, and the food was absolutely delicious. To this day, our family and friends have not stopped talking about the food.

I called 3 times and left a message, once on Adrian's voicemail (2 days after she got back from her honeymoon), and twice with their receptionist/ operator. It's been 2 weeks and still no call back nor email reply. I'm gonna have to report to the Nixon Library to inform them of this bad customer service. Jason's a preferred vendor of this venue and this is just bad bad bad. Ugh

Love their food at Jason's. The girls are all very sweet to deal with. They all always take care of my crazy requests. I love using catering companies where the owner is the chef. They take more pride in everything they create. Jason is so good at customizing his entree's to your needs. I truly enjoy working with everyone from Jason's at our venue.

After our wedding caterer fell out we sent inquiries to several other caterers. While Jason's was not able to offer us a quote because they were already booked, they sent us a reply very promptly saying that they were not available. I appreciated this very much as it allowed us to look for other vendors. I am regularly surprised at how some vendors don't call back if they are booked - their attitude is that if they aren't going to make any money, they shouldn't care. That Jason's called back says a lot about their professionalism.

I get it - it's your wedding and you always think it was OH MY GOSH SERIOUSLY THE BEST WEDDING EVER in retrospect. Seriously, though, Jason's was incredible. My guests RAVED in particular about the white basa fish (pan seared with lemon caper butter). I can't tell you how many people told me "I don't even like fish, but I liked this!" or "I went back for thirds!" The staff was professional and even made sure my husband and I got appetizers while we were taking pictures. They brought over plates of each appetizer for us, which was crucial, because my personal favorite thing we ordered were the Caribbean Rumaki - ripe bananas wrapped in Applewood smoked bacon, baked with a spiced brown sugar glaze. It still would have been the perfect day without three of those babies in my stomach, but seriously, these were the cherry on top. They also made sure that my husband and I got our own plates at our sweetheart table (without having to go through the buffet and get bombarded). Jason's not only took care of our guests, but they took care of us like their own children. But Jason's wasn't just amazing at the wedding. Even our tasting was this fabulous, intimate, gourmet meal with wine, agua fresca, 10 appetizers (I don't think I'm exaggerating), 6 main courses, AND dessert. Our server was VERY knowledgeable and charming. And I never felt pressured to commit - although it was a no-brainer once the meal was over. The food is quality and the people are personal. We seriously never believed that the food could be as good when prepared for 200 people at the wedding as it was when prepared for just the two of us at the tasting, but IT WAS. Adriana was with us every step of the way. We got married at the Fullerton Arboretum, and she actually went with us to pick out our linens, lighting, and other decorations with Create a Party rentals. She had really great ideas and was so patient while I vacillated between absolutely positive that the champagne napkins were it and crumbling at the edges because I wasn't sure that the colors matched. She answered every confused/frantic/indecisive e-mail with grace and positivity, and supported every idea we had with whatever resources she had. She was an AMAZING liason between us and the people planning the set up at the venue, and I couldn't have trusted her more. Jason's is the best value you can get for your money on food, alcohol, and service. You won't regret using them! THANK YOU, Jason's, for making our wedding even better than we could have ever hoped.

Jason's Catered Events was grrrrreat to work with. Natalie starts every email to me with "Hello Beautiful Bride Hannah!" hahaha. We ended up hiring a coordinator later in our wedding planning and Natalie worked well with her, too. I used them from a preferred list at the Nixon Library for our wedding just a week ago. I picked them because I thought they had the best food and open bar option, especially considering the price per person. Natalie is responsive and asks all the questions you need asked to get your reception done the right way. The tasting at Jason's was delicious, I had a hard time picking, but we ended up with a duet of braised short-rib with wine reduction and hawaiian butterfish, roasted veggies, and rice pilaf. EVERYONE was talking about how the food was really good - especially the apps and fish. Apps we had kalbi skewer (okay, so I'm actually Korean and it's not a real authentic kalbi, but it was a tasty morsel of marinated beef so I still picked it), greek spinach phyllo dough triangle... i can't even spell it haha, and this tasty thai-inspired chicken in a little edible cup. Now, as a guest, I never expect good food at weddings, so I'm really happy that we got to wow our guests with good food.

Jason's Downtown is located in a part of Santa Ana that has a few of my favorite restaurants within walking distance. It's definitely stiff competition to hold up to, but Jason's does a pretty good job. I like the patio outside, complete with twinkling lights and what I imagine would be a great place to relax and unwind after a long day of work with good friends. Inside the decor is modern-spanish-y. I like how they decorated the warehouse-ish building with mellow and subtle adobe colors. With the live music that night and the great settings it was definitely up there on the romantic side. I had the 25 dollar cert from restaurant.com and the service was generous enough to allow us drinks to hit that 50 mark. Our waitress was fantastic! We ordered the skirt steak, which was flawlessly medium rare and came with a corn salsa thing that tasted great with the steak. It had a heavy, toasted cumin flavor and made a great balance. My date had the jerk chicken, which she loved but I think I my steak kicked her chicken's ass. Martini for me, funky monkey for her. It's a good banana martini I guess...if you like banana martini's. Over all a place I would consider coming to at night, to bring some friends, sit outside, and just kickback.

Had the pleasure of doing some of the photography for this wonderful restaurant. And though I may be a little bias, I can tell you, I wouldn't write about how great this place was if I didn't really think so. The food Jason, the owner, cooked was as exciting to shoot as it was to eat. Colorful and delicious! Amazing dessert choices and great decor- I love dark ambiance. The bartenders are friendly and engaging and they have a great wine list. But the best part is the live entertainment from Jazz to Flamenco. I've added a couple of pics we shot to the image gallery. Go check this place out! restaurantsbyrio.com

We just had our tasting at Jason's for our wedding and the experience was amazing. Upon arrival in their downtown Santa Ana showroom, we were greeted with complimentary wine, drinks, and our choice of or food for tasting. We've been to plenty of tastings and i felt that Jason's was best one due to the romantic date like and no pressure setting. Aliana was the lady in charge of our event and gave us details on pricing, food, and different options. We loved her personality and how she let us eat and discuss amongst ourselves as the food was coming out so me and my fiance could critique each mouthful of Jason's food. The best part of the meal was when Jason, the cook/owner actually introduced himself to us and talked to us about our special day. We felt excited and felt that him being there really made us feel like he really cared. In the end we had decided with another company. Only due to the fact that they gave us a better deal on a full bar, which played a huge part in our budget and our decision. If we did only a wine and beer hosted bar, we would have chosen Jason's due to the value of price of their food and services. I love Jason's and will come back for dinner as i hear he has a restaurant as well.

When I walked in there was some kind of a private event going on in the bar area, which I thought was a bad idea--it kind of made things a little chaotic and confusing. I was early so I decided to wait for my friend at the bar. I ordered a tanqueray & tonic while killing time. I liked my drink, which had a nice balance of alcohol and tonic water. I'm not in the camp of strong drinks automatically being good ones. Plus it was happy hour, which meant it was only $4--bonus. When my friend arrived, we kind of had to hunt down the hostess and let her know we had reservations. She was apologetic about the chaos and seated us right away. We were super-early so the dinner crowd wasn't there yet, which was kind of a blessing because the place is nothing but hard surfaces, making all the sounds echo. The ambiance is very "artsy," with paintings and sculptures everywhere--not all of it totally successful, but if they patronize the artists in the area that's great. If you looked up "form over function" I believe you'd find a picture of their funky-ass bathroom fixture in there, which took my friend and me a few minutes to figure out. Anyhoo, on to the food: we decided to start off with the trio of mediterranean spreads, which was "Hummus, Eggplant Caponata & Goat Cheese Lebneh w/ Pita Bread"--very good. The only downside was that the pita bread got hard pretty fast as it cooled, so you have to eat this in a timely manner. I got their penne al fresca with seared salmon, and my friend got the Caribbean crepes. Their presentation wasn't the greatest (see my pic of the penne al fresca dish with the parmesan garlic toast looking like "wings" on the plate), but they were well executed--full of fresh ingredients and good flavor. The portions were also generous, so we both had some good leftovers to take home. We decided on the warm chocolate lava cake to finish things off, and it was very very good. Overall, the food and service was great (nearly a 4), but for a place charging rather high prices the ambiance and poor planning of putting that event in the bar right by the front door getting in people's way were misses for me and knocked off a star. I don't know if I'd be hankering to go back on my own, but if someone wanted to check it out or was having an event there I'd gladly go. My friend and I agreed that it'd be a great place for happy hour if in the area.

I had a really bad experience here and would not go back. I went on a Thursday night and I went here off a recommendation from a friend. The place was pretty dead except for a rowdy group at the bar area. The service was slow. And our server had a bad case of B.O. which made my experience very displeasing. The food was not up to par. My Ceasar was something I could make better at home. The greens were soggy, the dressing very normal. The only good thing were the croutons. I ordered the Flank Steak. The meat was tasty, but the rice had too many flavors in it. And to my dismay, I found a BELL PEPPER STICKER in my rice. It totally grossed me out and I immediately told the waiter. He comped the dish but it was too late to salvage the dinner. My aunt who accompanied me ordered the Tomato Soup and the Ahi Tuna. She was also unimpressed and we left really disappointed :(

I've heard horror stories about planning weddings from friends and family. I'm so glad to say that from the get-go, I had nothing but the best experience with our vendors - especially from Natalie and the team at Jason's Catered Events. Out of all the preferred vendor options for our wedding site, Jason's was the most responsive and helpful. I never felt as though I had to chase them down for answers. They went above and beyond and made us feel so comfortable and special. And the food - Delicious! We did a brunch wedding instead of the standard chicken or beef dinner since our wedding was in the morning. Jason and Natalie worked together to prepare a perfect menu of cheese omelets, red potatoes, applewood smoked bacon, sausage, Belgium waffles with a melon ball and blueberry salad. Everyone had their fill and loved the food. I'm glad to say that the impeccable service extended beyond our events contact and the chef to the service staff. They had such kind attention to detail. I love good service. You can bet that when my girlfriends get married or I have any other events, Jason's will be my number one recommendation.

This review is for Jason's Catered Events which is run out of the same location and owned by the same people. We chose Jason's Catering from a list of preferred vendors for our wedding and could not have made a better choice. From the first email until the last plate at our wedding was served they were nothing short of perfect. Natalie and her team were on top of everything, had great advice when needed and helped us craft a perfect menu for our wedding. They dealt with all of our requests, questions, and anything else we threw at them with the ease of a seasoned pro and the professionalism one always hopes for. The food at the wedding was perfect, I cannot tell you how many people are still raving about the food. I highly recommend their biscuits. While I never got to eat one (too busy mingling) I know a number of people who er...ate their fair share :) The service staff goes above and beyond. Everyone felt so well attended to and the servers dedicated to our bridal party were three steps ahead of us on everything. The only thing I wish they had done was sent us home with a little food since we didn't get to eat :( If you are considering hiring them for your wedding or event I can't recommend them enough and ask for Natalie. She is the best. Best of luck.

Yet another hidden gem in downtown Santa Ana, Jason's Downtown is a surprising find with good food, atmosphere, and service. If anything, I just wish they were open more days of the week. I had been planning to meet up with a dear friend for dinner and we were in the mood for something different. After some research, I followed Amy K.'s recommendation ( restaurant.com + opentable.com ) and settled on Jason's. We were all surprised by the restaurant once we stepped inside. A nice bar and ample seating in a tastefully decorated location seemed to prepare us for a good meal. We started off with the trio of Mediterranean spreads: hummus, eggplant caponata, and goat cheese lebneh served with pita bread. I thought they were all flavorful spreads, but wished the pita bread stayed warmer. I had a tough time deciding on an entree as many of Jason's offerings tempted me. Coq au vin, Jamaican jerk chicken, Bastilla (Moroccan cornish game hen), shepherd's pie, skirt steak, Caribbean crepes, and lamb tagine, oh my! I settled on the Colorado rack of lamb (grilled and served with a Greek-style vinaigrette of extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, fresh herbs, and capers) with sides of roasted garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed green and yellow wax string beans, and caramelized baby carrots. Sounds pretty good, eh? In short, my lamb was cooked to perfection. The mash, beans, and carrots were good, but the lamb just really stood out. In fact, I didn't even feel bad for eating a baby sheep. Hmmm...food good enough to rid me of my conscience, albeit briefly? Sweet! Overall, I think we had a pleasurable dining experience at Jason's. In these tough economic times, a quick visit to restaurant.com is well worth it. Otherwise, Jason's could put a noticeable dent in one's wallet/purse. However, I think this place is worth it. As other reviews state, Happy Hour seems like a good time to visit. So, grab a drink and check out Jason's if you're looking for a pretty good meal.

A solid 3.75, came here for a double date with a $50 restaurant.com certificate I purchased for $8 (with minimum purchase of $100). Got one of the last empty tables when we arrived at 8:15. Food roundup: Appetizers: Calimari and rumaki. Calamari was sauteed with onions and peppers swimming in a ton of this yummy sauce that was cross between Mediterranean type and curry like flavor. The rumaki is bananas wrapped in bacon on top of some greens. This reminded me of Lola's bacon wrapped blue cheese dates, nice litte bites with interplay of salty and sweet. The fruit and dressing on the greens was really good! Caribbean crepes and skirt steak dinner: Only had a bite of each, but they were flavorful and tasty. Veggies came cutely prepared in a bundle around with a ring of squash or cucumber. Jerk chicken dinner: Not too spicy, but loved the eclectic spices on the chicken. The accompanied rice pilaf was tasty, had some nuts strewn about. Lamb tagine: Delicious, not gamey hunks of stewed lamb in a rich sauce. The huge pumpkin seeds sprinkled on top gave a nice crunch. Liked the prunes in the dish, but the apricots didn't seem like they were cooked in and didn't add anything. Tasty with some couscous as the carb. Carrot cake: One of my faves, so delicious with big shreds of carrot, raisins, and nuts in the cake. Cream cheese frosting sweet, but not sugary-fake tasting. Drinks: Sangria on special - $5! The red sangria was almost cocktail-like, had some other liqueurs like congnac and definitely had a good alcohol content! The white was a bit lighter, but still liquored up and tasty. Huge serving too, came in huge wine goblets. Lowdown: Cute restaurant in Santa Ana Artist Village area with high ceilings and exposed brick make for a nice touch. Loved the live music from a singer, nice place for a leisurely dinner over some good drinks and conversation. Food was tasty, with some of the flavors being either Mediterranean, Carribean, and/or Mexican in flair...nice change of pace. Our server was great and happy to accept our coupon and make sure we're on track to $100 minimum (we had no problems with that). Had a nice 3 course meal with drinks for a fantastic price with the coupon!

I am really loving restaurant.com . Sure, I'd seen the good reviews on Yelp for Jason's Downtown, but there's nothing like a $25 gift certificate purchased for $2 to get me motivated to try a new place. And you can even make a reservation on opentable.com ! Jason's Downtown was easy to find, and I used the free parking in the structure around the corner. Since it was a little chilly, the outside tables weren't being used. The bar was pretty crowded for happy hour, but the restaurant only had a few patrons, even when we left around 8 pm. Happy Hour prices go until 7 pm and are good for half-off drinks and appetizers. I started with a mojito which I very much enjoyed, and my friend and I shared the Trio of Mediterranean spreads. I particularly enjoyed the hummus. The appetizer was pretty big for two people. We were also brought warm rolls and butter. For my entree, I had to try the Caribbean Crepes, since it seemed to be the popular choice on Yelp. The dish was very flavorful and a generous portion. It came with three crepes filled with cooked ahi and shrimp and mixed steamed vegetables on a bed of yellow rice with cashews and currants. For dessert we shared the chocolate lava cake, which was the special of the night. It looked like a mini bundt cake filled with warm chocolate and surrounded by fresh berries and raspberry sauce. It was very rich and perfect for sharing. After the $25 restaurant.com gift certificate and the half-off drink and appetizer Happy Hour prices, the total bill for two before tip came to $28! Of course we remembered to tip on the amount before the $25 off, so my friend and I got a three course meal for $20 each with tip. What a deal! Without the gift certificate, Jason's Downtown might be a little pricey for my taste, but I would certainly come back again, especially for the Happy Hour. It definitely seems like a great place to come for a drink and appetizer after work.

Looks like this place is closed for regular restaurant business, as they now only serve closed/private parties of 50 or more. That sucks, but what can you do.

I was expecting for this place to be uber fantastic after reading all the reviews on yelp, but it's just kinda ok. The food was edible and a little bit better than ok but it wasn't spectacular either. My boyfriend and I got a $50 restaurant.com gift certificate but couldn't print it out so we called and said we could either fax it or e-mail it to them and they would honor the certificate, and they did! Which was very nice of them. We went on a weekday night and it was really dead, only about two or three other tables in the entire place! We started off with the calamari which is a provencale style where it's sauteed with Worcestershire and tomatoes and I forget what my boyfriend got but I got the caribbean crepes which sounded better than they actually were. I'm glad we tried this place but I don't think I'll be back.

After working the Yelp Table at Memphis and helping to herd a gaggle of somewhat inebriated yelpers around the area that is Downtown Santa Ana, we decided to make Jason's the last stop of the night. End on a high note, so to speak. After stumbling into the patio, and being a little louder than what was required, we slipped into chairs at the bar. After some friendly conversation with the bartender, Chef Jason himself appeared and we were engrossed. He was showing us different spirits, some new drinks he concocted, and everyone was very impressed with his demeanor and attitude especially towards a bunch of yelpers who had transversed the entire pub-crawl. "But Robert, what about the restaurant? I don't care about some freaking pub crawl" Well, alas we didn't have a chance to sample any entrees, but the appetizers were superb - home made potstickers, excellent beef-on-a-stick, and a teriyaki/mirin/spicy/sweet asian style beef sampler that made everyone swoon, much like the couple that was sitting in attendance to the jazz group that was playing when we made our arrival. Suffice to say, if the appetizers were that good, the entree's must be superb. However, that'll have to be an updated review. As for the location itself, the restaurant is very tastefully decorated. Plenty of space in the main dining area, however the decore and fixtures give it a sort of homey feel. If I had to describe the restaurant in terms of design, it would have to be minimalist french fused with a high-rise lounge in NY. This works out well for it's location on 4th street, right across from the federal building. Again, I can only speak to so much about this establishment in terms of first hand experience, but the openness to our group and the hospitality that was extended definitely made all of us wish to return.

What a great little venue! I came here a couple of weeks ago for a private bday party and thought it was wonderful. The place has 2 rooms: one is the front room which is small but has a bar and the other room is a long rectangular shaped room for entertaining in. The decor makes this place look very classy but still trendy and young. We had a very long table for about 30 people which makes it difficult to socialize with everyone at the other end but I'm sure you can set it up differently if you wanted to. But given that it's a private party, it really doesn't matter because you can get up and talk to anyone anyways. The food was also very good. We had filet mignon and fish and both were extremely tasty. The filet mignon was extremely tender and just melted in my mouth. They topped it with blue cheese or some sort of herbed butter. Yum! As for price, I'm not sure how much it costs to rent this place. I'm all about getting the most bang for your buck so depending on that, it might not be worth it. Nevertheless, I did see on their website that it's around $55/person for dinner. Not too bad if that includes the price of renting out the venue!

Honestly, I didn't know what to think. We went because we had a gift certificate. When we arrived, the place was empty. That scared me. I actually thought about leaving but that's bad karma. So in we go to the unknown. The unknown soon turned into a pleasant surprise. The service was top notch. The food was absolutely amazing! We started with the calamari. Who doesn't like fried squid? For the entree, I ordered the skirt steak while my wife ordered the filet mignon. Both plates were really busy but if it tastes good, who cares! I have to say, that was probably the best skirt steak I've ever had. The filet was excellent as well. I kept reaching over to her plate. By this time, more people have trickled in. Probably from watching us gorge our food. They also had a jazz band. I'm glad more people decided to join us. It would have been awkward if we were the only table. The music was a little loud. This is a perfect example of not prejudging. I would go back to Jason's again.

What a delightful establishment. Prior to saying anything about anything, I have to say this: The sinks in the bathrooms are the coolest things ever. That said, our Yelper five-some finished a Saturday evening pub crawl at Jason's. The last bar on our list, we were at our leisure to pretty much do whatever we wanted for however long. Our arrival was trumpeted. Literally. A jazz quintet was playing live music. I was immediately provided a very positive first impression. We arrived around 10:30-11:00 or so, so the place was pretty quiet. Bartender (Michael, I believe) was very frendly and knowledgable, helping us out with a particular snafu experienced at a previous bar. Michael was also nice enough to keep the water flowing. Shortly after we arrived, the owner of the restaurant (guess his name...) came out to socialize. Jason was very friendly and extremely knowledgable about his profession, and was eager to share a story or three. After some fairly simple prodding, I partook in a signature drink creation of which I do not remember the name - I'll have to have someone jog my memory on this. It involved caramel, which is always wins. We also dined on a trio of appetizers, each one better than the next. The kalbi skewers were my favorite of the three, and were so excellent that I grabbed a brochure for a possible catering event. I would not have expected to find such fine dining in downtown Santa Ana. I would recommend Jason's to anyone looking for upscale fusion dining in the area. I would also recommend Jason's to anyone looking for a really, really cool bathroom faucet. I'm told that the female's version is even better, coming complete with a passed out girl watching over it.

Jason's Downtown Santa Ana...what a surprise! My sweetie and I want to go out to eat, it's Saturday night, that's what you do. We had a glass or 2 of a great Bordeaux that we tasted a couple of weeks ago at The Wine Club, Tim Grady hosting the tasting, Anyway after a couple, we decided to go to either Bistro 400 or Jason's on 4th. We chose Jason's, were seated immediately, and there was a jazz and contemporary band playing (low key music). Cool. We had a Jason salad, the I had COQ Au Vin and my sweetie, a Bastilla. Very leisurely dinner, ate, talked, listened to the music. We liked this place. good experience. We will try Bistro 400 next. They are just a few doors away on 4th.

This was our last stop for the Santa Ana Pub Crawl and it was the culmination of a fun drunken night. It was getting late as we walked in and the place was pretty empty but there was a band playing and it put me in a good mood. The space was beautifully decorated and sophisticated and classic. We sat down at the bar and was greeted by the friendly bartender. We got a pitcher of beer and it was yummy. But then we met Jason, the owner. He was very friendly and personable and stayed to talk to us until we left. He showed and gave us little trinkets that he hangs off of drinks and poured drinks for us to pass around and taste. We also got some of his appetizers and they were certainly quite yummy. We'll just have to come back for the full meal but it was a great end to a ... drunken night. I'm surprised I remember all this actually.

Caribbean Crepe!!! To die for. I took a friend here (because his name is Jason... ha ha, I am funny, I know) and we ordered a Coconut Shrimp and two glasses of wine for the happy hour, along with a Caribbean Crepe and to be honest, I don't remember what he ordered. I think I was oblivious since mine tasted so good, but I am pretty sure he ordered the Bastilla. I just remember him thinking his dish was okay. The Caribbean Crepe, however, was a delicious fusion of different flavors - not quite Caribbean, not quite Indian, not quite American. But the taste, texture, and quality of food were all superb. Jason came out to greet us, as there were only a handful of people there that night. He was very friendly and said that the Caribbean Crepe was a popular choice. I liked this place so much I went home and ordered gift certificates at restaurant.com . 'Til next time...

I've been to this place about 5 times and have never, ever been disappointed. It is the epitome of a hidden gem. The decor is beautiful and very classy, but edgy in a way (exposed brick wall, funky art, bold colors). The atmosphere is wonderful and warm and they always have fun, laid back entertainment. It's rare that the makeshift dance area isn't full of grooving regulars by the end of the night. I haven't eaten too many meals here but the pastas are never disappointing, and I think either my best friend or I have ordered the coconut shrimp (complete with sweet, addictive dipping sauce) every time. The menu is unique and diverse and everything I've tried has been amazing. Once you meet Jason the whole place sort of makes sense, as he himself is pretty laid-back, funky, warm, and classy. He is the friendliest guy and has some great stories. Even if you aren't in it for the food, the bar is awesomeee. It gets pretty crowded on Saturday nights but the drinks are worth the wait. The bartender is quite a stud when it comes to mixing drinks (not to mention extremely friendly and pretty easy on the eyes). Be sure to try the honeydew martini, and last time I was there he was mixing up some absinthe cocktails that looked pretty tasty. My only complaint is that I can only possibly go there 3 times a week, but that almost makes it more special. Go. Now!

Again.. I just can't get enough of this place. What a meal, great relaxed service staff. We meet Jason this time. He kicksass and is straight with you. Charming guy and he creates a great meal. Downtown Santa Ana hidden treasure, Santa Ana has it's nice parts and this is in it. Sit outside, enjoy the music, stars and a great meal! It's that FARKEN good. If anything it has been the best after dinner sex ever!

This is an amazing find. It's a trek from the artist's village section of downtown Santa Ana, but is right across from the massive travertine marble Ronald Reagan Federal Courthouse, where all of the county's business and personal bankruptcies are being handled. The wine tasting menu here is wonderful. The food was wonderful. Great selection of wines, and really great food. The place was packed for a weekday night. I recommend this restaurant without reservations. Actually, do make reservations, go eat and have a drink, and then walk down Broadway through the Artist's Village, and enjoy the other establishments in the area (Memphis at the Santora, PROOF bar, Lola Gaspars, Memphis, and even Original Mike's).

Came here last Friday because I was craving some STEAK! And they know how to serve up a mean rib eye, that's for sure. Here was my complete order: Appetizer: Coconut shrimp - delish! Soup of the day was chili, so of course I had some of that! Main dish: rib eye steak seared in garlic butter, topped with gorgonzola pine nut butter. BOOM! That was purely delectable! Add in friendly servers and a jazz quartet and I'm set to come back very soon. Maybe I'll join them so I can slap da bass!

My boyfriend and I came here for one of his friend's birthday. Keep in mind people, that they are not open to the public all week. I believe Wed-Sunday or something they are only open for private events. Anyways, this birthday party was a surprise birthday party. The restaurant, is already nicely decorated, so no need to bring much decor with you for your events. The service here was exceptional. You never needed to really ask for refills, because they were very attentive. The food was also pretty delicious! The waiters served us appetizers while we mingled, and then we had a buffet style dinner. Everything about this place was elegant, warm, and cozy. I would definitely come here again...the only one thing that is setting me back is that is smack in the middle of downtown, Santa Ana..therefore, it is really hard in finding the place. With all the one way signs out there...make sure you allow yourself plenty of time in finding this place if there is a certain time you have to be there.

I wanted to give this 4 stars, but then I had the Caribbean Crepes. Maybe I wasn't in the mood for sweet and spicy or maybe they actually WERE just OK. Anyway, between them and a good 15 minute wait after we were done, searching for our server, I couldn't do it. DH had the prime rib, which was pretty good, but really Ruth's Chris has pretty much ruined steak for me anywhere else. I had a really good mojito (they were on 'special' for the weekend) and a unique salad with feta, blueberries, watermelon and sunflower seeds. Very tasty and summer-y. Dessert was the chocolate pyramid, which I must warn you, is much smaller than i anticipated. However, it too was yummy. Thanks for the tips on using the restaurant.com GC's! I would've been even more annoyed if we hadn't had them. Note: they automatically added 18% gratuity, which is probably understandable given that people probably don't realize they need to tip on the original amount, but really, our server didn't deserve an 18% gratuity after her disappearing act. Oh, and I almost forgot--the jazz trio was excellent, but a tad on the loud side. So don't do this for a first date, unless you want to make sure you don't actually learn anything about them. :)

I went here because of the great reviews on Yelp and my $25 restaurant.com gift certificate (which is worth it so buy those restaurant.com gift certificates!) and I was extremely pleased, so thank you Yelpers! I took my boyfriend here for our 2 year anniversary and we loved it. We had the California Rumaki as a starter and it was so unique and delicious. I ordered the Mexican Sea Bass and my boyfriend ordered the Prime Skirt Steak. The Sea Bass was scrumptious but it lacked a little flavor compared to other Sea Bass that I've had. Maybe it fell short because my boyfriend's order had so much garlic flavor which exploded in my tastebuds. The Skirt Steak was so tender, juicy, and garlic-y. Don't think I've ever had steak that delicious in awhile! I couldn't stop eating off my boyfriend's plate! I reserved thru opentable.com and I made a note that it was our anniversary and if they could possibly whip up some dessert that said "Happy Anniversary." At the end of our meal, they indeed brought out this cute & delicious marble cake with Happy Anniversary written in strawberry sauce! The live jazz band was a great addition too. They played this blues jazz version of Billie Jean which made our night. The ambience is dark, relaxed, and can be romantic or fun for a group of friends... however you want to spin it. It can get a little loud with the band so if you're planning to have some deep conversations, sit on the patio cuz it may be hard to hear each other. Other than that I will definitely be coming back for the food, music, and service!

Good company, live music, delicious food and a friendly staff make Jason's Downtown a five-star. It is a hidden jewel on the fringe of Santa Ana Art District and should be on your list of restaurants to try in that area. We enjoyed our food with red sangria, which was made particularly strong for us; that's always a win. We started the evening off with Rumaki, a dish of ripened bananas wrapped with bacon over chopped vegetables. It was flavorful and a pleasant departure from run of the mill appetizers. We followed that with Caribbean Crepe. Other than shrimps, I don't remember what was in but it was delicious. It just melted in my mouth. Just read the description. How could you not want to try it! "Crepes of Fresh Florida Rock Shrimp and Ahi with West Indian Curry & Coconut Milk, Red Onion, Red Pepper & Celery sautéed in Honey Butter, flamed in Rum and topped with Fresh Mango Sauce & Toasted Coconut Island Rice Pilaf w/ Cashews & Raisins, Baby French String Beans." The portions were sufficient for two people who weren't terribly hungry. I think an appetizer, entree and dessert would be plenty. We chose to forgo the dessert and still came away very satisfied.

A friend invited us to join her group for dinner and Jazz at Jason's Downtown, a friend was playing in the Jazz Band. We started outside on the patio, great little spot. I ordered the Funky Monkey Martini....YUM!!! Once the entire group showed up we moved inside and were promptly seated at our table. Loved the ambiance, very chic yet cozy. The food was fabulous, opted for the Newcal Latin Rice Bowl and left it vegetarian, it was perfect. The jazz band, Subliminal Messages was extremely good, and not to loud that we couldn't visit. My only disappointment, they were not serving the Red Velvet Cake for dessert, oh well, better for the diet. I would most definitely head to Jason's Downtown again.

Jason's: the restaurant that tried its best NOT to get new customers. Backstory: friends and I tried for over a month to get together for dinner at Jason's. Every single (weekend) night that we were free, Jason's was closed for a private event. It was as though Jason's wasn't interested in drumming up new business. But, we persevered because we'd had a taste of Jason's during the Santa Ana pub crawl and we knew it was worth the trouble. Jason's serves great food, in a cool-polished setting. I highly recommend their sangria (either red or white). Their kalbi beef skewers are delicious, as are their pot stickers. I ordered the Lamb Tajine - since I've never cooked lamb in my own kitchen and don't ever see myself tackling the dish, so I try to order it in restaurants. It was great! Although, a little too heavy on the cous cous. All of the dishes are very flavorful and delicious. It could be a 5 star restaurant - but because of it's crazy hours I'm docking it a star.

$12 for a pitcher of beer is an AWESOME deal. It was pretty much like 4 glasses. I got the pale ale on tap and I'm so sad that I don't remember the name because it was pretty good. It had an almost citrusy flavor to it. The DJ spun top 40 all night so it wasn't anything special, but I still had fun. It was pretty empty when we got there and no one was dancing but things started to pick up after people started to drink and I ended up dancing til late. Joe and I ordered the spanish tortilla and our bad for not really reading what it was because we pretty much ordered an omelette that was not worth $9 but whatevers. Some people were passing out free drinks on us maximum $15 tickets so it made the experience even better. There was only one disappointing thing about this place: the buttery nipple. It's supposed to just be a shot. The bottom half is butterscotch schnapps and the top half is bailey's. They should not be mixed together. The bartender shook up half a shot of each into a cocktail shaker and poured it out into a cup. That's now what a buttery nipple is! Shaking it with ice waters down the shot too and a watered down shot is not tasty or worth it. Can't wait to come back and try the food!

Reviewed strictly on the strength of two appetizers and some Sangria (so I reserve the right to edit / expand this review after I return for dinner). My wife, her aunt, some friends and I hit Jason's as part of a downtown Santa Ana pub crawl one weekend, and it quickly shot to the top of our lists as the best place we visited during the night. Located down at the "end of the world" (the owner's words) across from the Reagan federal building, Jason's is a bit off the beaten path, but worth the very short trek. Granted, it helped that the proprietor was hanging out on the front patio when we strolled up, and sat & talked with us for several minutes as we ate, making us feel exceptionally welcome. But, beyond that, the quality of the food & drink was top notch. We ordered a round of red sangria, which was delicious (although I'm anxious to return and work through their actual wine list), especially on a warm August night. This accompanied two appetizers: a seared ahi wonton, and some kalbi (NOT Kobe, note) beef skewers. Both were explosively flavorful, sweet and tender. If this is any indication of what's in store for us at dinner, then my mouth is already watering.

I would give this 3 1/2 stars if they had that available. I wanted to absolutely love it because I'm so into the Arts District area of Santa Ana. I'd give it a B+ I went there for my birthday with my 10 year old daughter. We had a restaurants.com gift certificate for $25.00. I ordered 2 glasses of wine, a shirley temple for her, a Spanish Quiche type appetizer, a pasta dish for her and a Vegan Vegetable Medley dish for me. And a rich chocolate dessert. My meal was great and so was my daugter's pasta dish. The appetizer wasn't my cup of tea, but other people may like it. The dessert was a bit too rich. The service was PHENOMENOL. I can't rave about the waitress enough. I never thought I cared much about service as I'm much more into a cool atmosphere, but when you have absolutely outstanding service, you can't help but see how other places fall short in this department. We never wanted for anything, but the waitress didn't hover either. The flamenco dancers were really cool too... but I should warn those coming for date night that's you shouldn't expect to carry on a conversation if you go on Flamenco night, as it was REALLY REALLY loud. But very entertaining nonetheless. I love that they offer a couple of Vegan alternatives for me too. Overall, I would totally come back but I wasn't absolutely blown away. But they do a great job and its extremely classy!

Able to make reservations on opentable.com , showed up a little early and was seated quickly. There was a private event in the patio area, so we were seated toward the rear of the restaurant. Attentive service, ok wine list by glass. My boyfriend was able to get a Chimay beer. Lots of food to choose from, my boyfriend tried the Seafood Crepes (I had a couple of bites, savory!) I had the Appetizer Beef Skewers and Downtown salad. Rarely do I get a piece of beef that is as tender and perfectly flavored as my grandma's pot roast... but somehow those beef skewers reminded me of her pot roast and warm, happy memories. Lastly, we ordered the carrot cake dessert, so wonderfully yummy. The best part all of this for $60ish. Live music and artsy decor.

Great venue for a party (birthday, work event or random happy hour)! It has a dining area, bar area, large patio & a dancefloor! I created a Yelp account JUST so I could praise Jason's Restaurant. That in itself should tell you how great this place is. First off, Jason is a true New Yorker. He's sweet, quirky, hospitable and knows how to keep his customers happy. I went to Jason's last month for dinner after finding a coupon on Restaurant.com . As a vegetarian, it's hard to find meatless/eggless dishes with quality taste & presentation, but this restaurant appeals to all taste buds. We had these amazing pomegrenate margaritas (YUM) and the most delicious dessert I've EVER had: pineapple upside down cake with coconut ice cream. My mouth is salivating as I write this.... We then decided that Jason's would be a fantastic place to host my 29th Birthday party. We invited about 40 people, arranged an affordable Open Bar package, and brought our own IPOD for after-hours music & dancing. It was an absolute blast, and my friends were shocked at the gorgeous ambience and fabulous service from a restaurant they'd never even heard of before that night. Jason's has it all: a tastefully decorated dining area with modern decor, strong drinks at the bar, and a dancefloor for late night dancing. It's my new favorite place!

I would've given 5 stars except for: 1. Waiter/waitress were having an off night...they mixed up the order with the table next to us, and completely forgot about my drink order! 2. The Bastilla was a bit too salty... 3. The red velvet cake was too doughy...maybe too much flour? 4. The jazz duo was TOO LOUD! They need to turn that volume down a few notches...I'm trying to eat here, jeez... Other than the above few things, everything else was great! Here are the good things: 1.The Spanish tortilla appetizer was pretty good...not too impressed but good, 2. The mojito was freakin great! Too bad the waitress forgot I wanted another one. 3. Caribbean crepes were awesome. 4. Owner is on hand, and he seems very enthusiastic about what he serves.

Had a pleasantly calm dinner with a couple girlfriends here on a Friday night. At first, we were taken aback by all the empty tables! I mean, there was live music with this great female singer....the place is nice....it's a weekend, where is everyone?! But, if you picked up Jason's and put it in say downtown Fullerton or Orange even, it'd probably be more popular. Our waitress was this cute, courteous lil lady who treated us great. We had a bottle of Maso Canali Pinot Grigio, pleasant & refreshing. Then, came our cheese plate appetizer: St. Andre, Humbolt Fog Dry & Gorgonzola Spread w/ Brandied Golden Raisins, Balsamic Figs, Apricot Cranberry Chutney, Grapes, Strawberries & Nuts. Accompanied by fresh bread, it was delicious. I had the Caribbean Crepes: Crepes of Fresh Florida Rock Shrimp and Ahi with West Indian Curry & Coconut Milk, Red Onion, Red Pepper & Celery sautéed in Honey Butter, flamed in Rum and topped with Fresh Mango Sauce & Toasted Coconut Island Rice Pilaf w/ Cashews & Raisins, Baby French String Beans. As a whole, it was great, although I would've liked more fish inside the crepes. The island rice was sooo good, too. My friends ordered chicken dishes and were very pleased with them. All and all, I'm so happy I found Jason's and will be back soon!

The restaurant is a bit off the beaten path, making it more of a destination than a stroll-by. It's also (at least, for now) only open for dinner on Thurs, Fri and Sat nights, so you can't just "pop in" anytime. The menu features an eclectic variety of offerings. The owner stopped by to chat and said he built the concept around his favorite dishes. He wasn't going for a cuisine, but for good meals. Jamaican meets Morocco meets Mexico, all on one menu and well-executed. Nice! For starters, we had the flatbread and spreads along with the egg torta. The spreads were good, but the egg dish was more intriguing. It came with a corn salsa that quickly got gobbled up. Torta could've been a bit warmer, but the flavors were good. For entrees, we tried the Flaming Shrimp, Short ribs and Lamb Tagine. All dishes were well-seasoned, nicely cooked and quite tasty. Ribs were tangy-sweet without being cloying. The lamb was tender and the accompanying couscous had good texture with subtle sweetness from the dried fruits. I didn't try the shrimp, but understand they were delicious. Portions were large and prices were reasonable. Wine list was limited but supported the meal options. Service was pleasant and attentive. A very nice find - well worh a trip.

I might be biased because I found a hair in my food. I immediately sent it back, but it was too late. I couldn't eat the rest of my meal comfortably. They offered us a free dessert to make it up, which was nice. My tortilla espanola had a sweet flavor, which I didn't really like. The service was really good, but there are so many restaurants in this area, that I will probably not visit again.

Had drinks and appetizers here earlier today, I kinda liked it. Ambiance is good, food was pretty good, but I wouldn't drive all the way from Costa Mesa, be stuck in traffic, for the appetizers. I must admit, though, I tried their soup of the day, which was a mushroom bisque, very delicious. Their cheese appetizer is tasty (get it during Happy Hour, half off!), yet the other appetizers weren't as memorable. I think the chef tries to be too fancy & creative, but it just didn't work for my peasant taste buds. I think I might like to come back to have lunch or dinner... but several stores down is Bistro 400, now that place has good appetizers!

I've heard good things about Jason's so i decided to take two of my cousins there for dinner. We ordered the Calamari, the ribeye, rack of lamb and shepherds pie. The calamari was ok. i think Iiked the onions and red peppers more than the calamari itself. The ribeye was something that you could have done at home since you didn't taste much seasoning. Sear it on a pan and bake it in the oven and you pretty much have Jason's Ribeye. The rack of lamb was good because I prefer it saltier. The mashed potatoes were really good and the veggies was so so. I'm a carnivore! I didnt try the Shepherd's Pie but my cousin said it was ok but his face said otherwise. hahaha For dessert, we had the carrot cake and the red velvet. They were alright. It wasn't too sweet which was good. Seemed very plain though. I'm big on customer service and Stever, our waiter, was great. As pricey as the food was, I'm willing to give Jason's another chance because of service. It's a very chill place and cool to get to know someone or just relax though. Try it out, I might have gone on a bad night and I'm willing to reevaluate later.

they're a new place - decor is really nice, esp the sink in the bathroom. The food was ok. We had: calamari (but this was not breaded and fried), candied walnut/apple/gargonzola/spinach salad (like the waldorf salad at CPK), jerk chicken (with the skin on, dark meat *yum) which was good but the rice was hard and seemed recooked. A nice touch was that the bread came warm and crunchy. String beans were a bit oily, would have preferred a steamed or lightly baked one with sprinkle of spices. Our service was friendly and above par (she was friendly, informative, and pretty). unfort, my date had a reaction 12 hrs after dinner so we think it was the food here - but we're of course not *sure.* Might still give this place another shot. Agree with last reviewer that wines were over-priced (the wine list does not have wine year), though right now they have happy hour: 50% off appetizers and all drinks before 7pm. Located conveniently across the street from the federal buildings.

After reading reviews and finding the $25.00 gift certificate at restaurant.com , my girlfriend and I tried this restaurant on a Saturday night. We walked into the place and heard the two guitar players serenading the crowd of about nine. Yes, a total of nine people in the entire restaurant. We were seated and helped by Steven who was very quick and kind and even politely asked for the gift certificate before i even asked if they would take it. We had 2 drinks, one being alcoholic, the Mediterranean spread, which was goat cheese, hummus and eggplant. I only really like the hummus and the pita bread it came with was cold in my opinion. i did however, enjoy the skirt steak with rice and veggies, it was well cooked and very juicy, my girlfriend also enjoyed her chicken dish and after trying a piece, it was just as good. There was no room for dessert as everything we ordered was finished. Now the bill, 50.50 total, just enough to use the gift card, total for tow dinning in a very nice restaurant in downtown santa ana, 29.00.!! Seriously, get on restaurant.com , find the gift cert. go to jasons, enjoy the music, sit outside and enjoy the company of friends and have a great dinner.

Totally concur w/my gf's review of 02/23/08. Thanx wifey! Always have a great time w/you hun. And what amazing memory & detail to your review! Indeed, our orders including the special martinis were definitely superb here. My bastilla was delish; only other time think I've had this dish (equally good) was at Marrakesh, Costa Mesa. [see separate review for that]. Back to Jason's: excellent everything--food, service, ambience, location. Walking distance to Rude Guerilla Theatre & other interesting Santa Ana artsy spots: Santora building, galleries, Proof Bar, Memphis Eatery & Gypsy Den. All awesome in their own way too.

I cannot even explain what kind of gem of a restaurant this is, good atmosphere, great service, awesome food! The carribean crepes are really really good, I personally had the seared ahi special. I'm not much of a seared ahi guy, but this dish was awesome. Jason even came over to introduce himself, talked to us for a bit...made us feel more than just customers. I do suggest trying thier California Rumaki appetizer, it's to die for. I really suggest this restaurant if your looking for a new place to try.

Great food, with an interesting and diverse menu. My MIL, who has many food allergies, was actually able to order something other than a salad (which is what she is forced to have at most places). Some unusual and tasty vegetarian dishes. Conversation is difficult when the music starts, but the music is really good! A small miscommunication between servers led to not getting our bread till we were nearly finished our meal. Otherwise, great service!

Oh no! Jason's has closed to the public and is only open for private events now. Hopefully this is only temporary because of the economy and they will open back up to the public soon!

Strolled through here during the Pub Crawl last night. Cool place, nice vibe. I loved the decor. I haven't eaten here, but I had a good time here nonetheless. The one thing I can note was an older gentleman arguing with a dwarf (not a midget) nearby. Odd or par for the course?

Fantastic place. Thank goodness Santa Ana is trying to create an upscale downtown. We sat on the patio and had the heater turned on. Just perfect. Ordered the Kalbi Beef Skewer, absolutely fantastic. Trio of Hummus, very tasty apps. Entree, We split the Rib Eye, prepared medium and had a Jason's Salad with Chicken. The chicken was a little dry, thought they were roasted rosemary potatoes for a second since it was dark. Wine list was nice, good selection by the glass, about 2-4 of each varietal. Didn't ask for a captains list since I was the only one drinking and did not want to temp myself, but I assume they have one since it has wine cellar in the name. Bathroom sinks are cool, until some drunks break it trying to turn them on. Music was soothing jazz. Bartender, Sara served us, did fantastic, for handling the bar, cocktail tables, which were full and coming outside for just our little 3 top all the while making cocktails for the guest in the restaurant. So 4 out of 5, because the chicken was dry and we didn't get the hot rolls until we were finished with our entrees. Definitely give this place a try, and my mom lives half a block away so I can always stumble there, pass out and wake up with my laundry washed, folded and breakfast hot and ready.

my bf found this place through opentable.com and we didn't really know what to expect. once inside, the decor and atmosphere was just what we were looking for - romantic, relaxed, and unpretentious. had just walked in at 6:45p and knowing that happy hour ends at 7p, we quickly ordered 2 drinks each at the bar (alkies, i know) - we had mojitos and margartinis and they were delicious! later we also ordered sangria - also very good! apparently they were having a promotion on the sangrias ($5/glass all night) -- not sure if this is still going on, but it wasn't on their menu, so it might just be a good idea to ask them if they have any drink promotions. the waitresses/waiters were super nice. ambience was nice too - there was a live performer singing and playing the guitar. real chill. ordered the rack of lamb and the caribbean crepe - both were really good. but the *best* was actually an appetizer that one of the waitresses recommended - california rumaki sounds weird but its really good! - its bacon on bananas.. we took a chance and took the recommendation, and we thought it was awesomely delicious! it was a great combo of crunchy and smooshy, sweet and salty.

I loved this place! Last week I attended a photography workshop hosted by JNP Studios and held at the restaurant. I was immediately impressed by the decor and ambiance. Very modern yet comfy. Even thought we were all inthralled with the workshop, I had to stop and just admire both the taste and presentation of the food. Just soooo yummy and gorgeous. The workshop was amazing and the food made it even more enjoyable. Thank you so much and thanks for allowing us to stay a little extra time. You guys ROCK and can't wait to go again next next I'm in Santa Ana. :)

I found this place on restaurant.com when looking for a nice place to take my girlfriend for Valentine's Day. The food and service being so great, I felt compelled to make an account on Yelp to write about it. Yeah, they were that good. :] On Valentine's Day, they had a special. For $45 (inclusive of tax and gratuity), you get an appetizer, soup or salad, entree, choice of dessert, and wine or coffee/tea. They had a live band playing hits from such greats as Stevie Wonder and a complimentary rose for the ladies. The atmosphere was nicer than I had expected, but a little distracting (the music was just a bit too loud) for a comfortable conversation. My girlfriend didn't have her ID, but management eventually offered her a glass of wine anyway. Don't tell anyone ; ]

UPDATE 10/20/2007: We came here again for dinner. There was a band playing so we sat in the bar area in one of their high tables. I was excited to see that on their wine list they have a wine from Chateauneuf-du-Pape which I visited in Avignon, France last year. Unfortunately they were out..... We ordered a cheese plate, Spanish tortilla and a hummus plate that came with a huge amount of goat cheese, hummus (of course) and a delicious olive tapanade. Everything was so good............. I just wish that they were open on Sunday and Monday... I am so glad that this restaurant opened in downtown Santa Ana. Located within the Artists Village just a short walk from Memphis @ the Santora, Gypsy Den, American Apparel and Rags. Oh, and just a few doors down from Bistro 400 this place is a gem. We approach what looked like a very busy night. The bar was full and the dinning area looked packed. What I like about Jason's is the cute patio out front. It's layed with old brick and surrounded by a gate. There is plenty of room for dinning out in the patio. Perfect for a romantic date. The decor inside is very eclectic. We are seated promptly and our order for drinks was taken. They ran out of the wine that I had asked for. So, I left it up to bf to order a bottle for us. I noticed that they had Smoking Loon Merlot available on the wine menu for $20. I thought that was a bit funny that it was on the menu for $20 when you can get it at Rite Aid for $5.99 on sale. We were told that they are experimenting with the wine menu and it may change. Now, the dinner menu was amazing. First off they have so much to choose from. And not only are there so many different options they also have food from all over the world. We noticed that there were Spanish, Moroccan, Jamaican, Mexican, English and French dishes on the menu. If I missed one then I apologize. On our next visit I will be sure to better examine the menu. They also have four vegetarian dishes to choose from. Not, to mention that some of the small plates and appetizers have some vegetarian options. Yes, they also have small plates. Perfect for a small bite while sipping a drink at the gorgeous bar they have here. I don't know if you can tell, but I am really excited that they are open. So, I decided to get the Chicken Tibblets and my man ordered the Cuq A Vin. I almost always enjoy what he orders when we dine out. However I was really pleased with my dish. The Chicken Tibblets is stuffed with a cheese mixture that seems to of been pan roasted. Wonderfully prepared and extremely delicious. It came with a side of rice and french cut green beans, bf's dish "Cuq A Vin" was a chicken dish in what tasted to of been cooked in a crock pot or slow cooked over the stove. The accompanying sauce was very rich in flavor and also extremely delicious. However the chicken was cooked with the bones attached. By the time that he finished his meal there were a mountain of bones pushed off to the side of his plate. We joked about still being a bit hungry after eating our meal. Perhaps they can get a little crazy and throw some more rice on the plate. Not that we are fat ass hungry people. We were just a bit hungry after. But, whatever being that this was their soft opening we were very impressed. Our food was amazing aside of the extra bones of bf's plate. The service was great. Justin was our waiter and he took very good care of us. Now, I asked about the dessert menu because I am always curious as to what dessert options they have and what I was told sounded so tasty. Perhaps another night I will try a dessert. Oh, they also have a self playing piano. Our waiter told us that on different nights of the week they will have live entertainment. Fun stuff! They are also opened for lunch. Not sure if they have a lunch menu or if it is the same as the dinner menu. Try this place!! Oh, they are also opened for dinner till 11PM.... Oh, I forgot to mention that our bill came out to $60 something dollars. Not bad at all. Mind you that included one beer and a bottle of wine. So, really prices are about average. Nothing insanely expensive here on the menu. Note: We tried finding out if they were open on Monday nights because bf wanted to bring his mother here for her b-day and sadly they were closed!!! Oh and another note.. I didn't notice anything for the kids on the menu..

My husband and I decided to dine here after we were finished with work. We arrived around 9, and still the restaurant was crowded. We opted for the patio, as there was no wait there. Our waitress was the best! Sabra if you are reading this, you are awesome. =) She was very informative and knowledgable. We decided on the Calamari Corsican Style ($9.50) for an appetizer, and for dinner we had the Prime Ribeye Steak ($25) and the Colorado Rack of Lamb ($27). The entrees were accompanied by sauteed vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. YUMMM, we loved everything. From the look of things, they also have live bands performing inside. All in all, we had a pleasant night.

Jason's is a bit out of place in old Santa Ana - in a GOOD way. Cool artwork along with the brick walls. Live three piece jazz band completed the atmosphere. Wait staff was great and offered up excellent choices. I had the Carribean Crepes which were fantastic. Tons of flavor and good sized portion. The braised short ribs were a hit too. Our Saturday night dinner was the perfect prelude to taking in the Santa Ana Artists village. It is a bit off the beat and path, so you won't often find it over crowded. I would recommend Jason's as a great place for a nice dinner or just to have a few drinks at the bar.

As most people here, I used a restaurants.com certificate. On our last attempt to use one of these on a Friday night at a DIFFERENT restaurant, we were told they had changed the policy and were no longer accepting them on a Friday night. (I looked around in awe as the place was not even half full and left because I don't appreciate false advertisement even though they were very nice about informing us about this change). That said, when we handed our certificate to the wait staff at the beginning of the night at Jason's - they said "these are a great deal" and we were treated with great hospitality the entire night. Location: A little out of the way for us but its in the Arts District of Santa Ana that is pretty laid back with a modern twist. The lack of lines is refreshing but also sad because there are a lot of great spots here that would be jam packed if in Huntington Beach or somewhere like that. There is some parking on the street which we were lucky to get and a couple parking structures on the next block. Street parking is free after 8 pm. Atmosphere: White linens and a modern vibe make a perfect atmosphere for a dinner with some close friends or a sig-nif. They have seating inside and out (with heaters) and a bar area. There was a wonderful singer/acoustic guitarist - MARY FROEMKE - that had a phenomenal voice and it appears they have entertainment at least 1-2 nights a week, though you can review their entertainment schedule on their website. Entertainment ended at 10 pm - would have stayed longer if it hadn't - not sure if this is the usual or just because the place was pretty dead (only 2 tables of people at that time). Beer/Wine: I had higher expectations for their wine and beer list (they had a picture of a Far Niente bottle on their website)...but their list seemed limited. I did find a Chateau Beaurenard Cote Du Rhone that I really enjoyed and my husband got a Chimay. The service was great, as they even brought me a taster of the wine before I ordered it to make sure I liked it. I have had this done with beer a bit but rarely with wine. I didn't look at the beer options but if my husband got a Chimay then it was probably because it is a good standby with not a lot other interesting options. I believe they had a good cocktail list but I didn't see one, though they may have had it hidden else where. Food: The appetizer was awesome - banana wrapped in applewood bacon with a light cinnamon/suger glaze and a chutney like salsa that gave it an Indian taste. Definitely would get it again. The entrees, while good didn't achieve the culinary delight status that the appetizer did. My husband got the Bastilla - the flavors were good though I think it needed a light sauce or something...it reminded me of an Iraqi lamb stew I made once or like a really good New Zealand meat pie. The flavors were complex with a sweetness. I ordered the rib eye as it was rec commended by our waitress - the medium rare was the rarest I had ever seen and quite large. Although it was very good with a Gorgonzola creme sauce and seared in garlic butter, I don't think it hit all my expectations. The sides (mashed potatoes and cooked veggies) again were good. No dessert - nothing seemed to stand out on the menu as something that made me want to drop my diet! Overall: Would I go back? Yes! The entertainment and atmosphere were wonderful. However; I might focus more on ordering an array of appetizers and do a tapas-like thing. I am sure there are probably some entrees that stand out, but while ours were good, I think I would try something different the next time.

YUM!!!! I ate there again, this time with the girls. This was my second time and I had the salmon and basmati rice (previous review below). Service was excellent, food was delish, and the beer kept flowing! The special dessert was the chocolate lava cake again which is absolutely incredibly amazing. The lava part of the lava cake is seriously a little piece of heaven! They should put that on the menu - OR just keep it as a daily special because I don't care it just needs to remain available!!! This place is great. The live music was different this time but no decline on the quality. It was a Friday night and the place was packed. I had the same waiter, a guy but I don't know his name because I am bad with names. It looked like he was the only server but he had no problem keeping up. I did see a girl pop out but I didn't see her as much so I have no idea if she was a server or not. If you want good food at a good price, go here!!! Keep up the good work Jason's!!

Four of us went here for dinner on a Saturday night. Not crowded. We had reservations and were seated right away. Pleasantly surprised by the food and ambiance. The place has a urban loft feel-- brick walls, sealed concrete floors. There was a great band playing vocal standards (i.e. Frank Sinatra), really lending an air of sophistication to the evening. We started with a Mediterranean sampler, pita served with three dips: goat cheese, hummus and caponata. Yum! I had the Caribbean Crepes which were delicious! The crepes were very thin and light, served with a delicious, unexpected sweet rice pilaf. I also tried my hubby's chicken pot pie. The pie filling sat in a shallow dish, with a flaky, almost phyllo like crust sitting on top, not quite your traditional "pie," but still tasty. We were really looking forward to the dessert, which turned out to be only so-so after such great entrees. The portions were on the small side, not really big enough to share. We tried Tuxedo Cake and Chocolate Pyramid. Overall, great evening! Great food, great music. We'll be back!

had an amazing dinner last night at Jason's.........The skirt steak was perfect and my lovely wife's seafood crepe was delicious. $5.00 Pomergranite margueritas were also great. The bad news! Jason's is discontinuing Dinner service at the end of the month. We were told by Steve; (the best waiter hands down) that they would still be available for private functions and that Jason s'was going to focus more on their catering business. I am guilty of raving about Jason's every chance I get but not visiting them often enough. Thanks for 2 years of amazing dinners. Perhaps Santa Ana was not ready for such a great restaurant. I'll miss you

My first review after using Yelp for a year, so here we go. My girlfriend and I wanted a change of scenery last weekend so we decided to go to the Artist District in Santa Ana. We did our own research and decided on Jason's for dinner. Neither of us had been there before but we knew we made the right choice the second we walked in the restaurant. As we were waiting for our table, a couple by the bar nicely informed us that the food they had was amazing, and gave us a few suggestions on the menu. The lady suggested the Vegetable Napoleon which sounded really good. I would have ordered it if there weren't so many other choices on the menu. I wound up with the Caribbean Crepes and my gf ordered the Bastilla. My crepes were absolutely amazing! I usually am a little wary about ordering crepes because they could be very filling and heavy. But not the ones I ordered...they were light yet very flavorful. The curry seasoning goes perfectly with the coconut island pilaf. The portion was perfect. You are left feeling satisfied but not overly stuffed. My friend enjoyed her Bastilla as well. She had ordered it before in other restaurant but it is basically meat wrapped inside a phyllo dough. It's a traditional Moroccan dish and it's prepared a little on the sweet side, so it might not be for everyone as an entree. I loved it because I love everything sweet. We met Jason, the owner of the restaurant as we were leaving. He told us a little back story of the restaurant and how he got started as a caterer. He was interacting with all of the customers that night which is always nice to see. He told us to come back for their Happy Hour sometime as they have live Jazz performance on Thursdays going into the dinner hour. It was overall a great dining experience. Good food, classy yet unassuming crowd and atmosphere.

Love Jason's Downtown! Literally eat here 3 to 4 times every month. Jason's does a great job offering a large variety, there is something for everyone. They have some very creative dishes from their California Rumaki (carmelized bacon wrapped banana - just try it!) to their Lamb Tajine (outstanding morrocan dish). Even popular favorites like Shepard's Pie and Chicken Pot Pie are anything but ordinary (you just have to try both of these, you will be so happy you did). The salmon is always perfectly cooked and gorgeous and Jason's makes a simple salad something special (try the Jason's salad with the Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette, you will NOT be disapointed!). This may sound silly, but they have the best cheese plate anywhere ... they do not skimp on the portion like every single other restaurant and they serve it with some wonderful condiments like the Apricot Cranberry Chutney and Balsamic Figs. It is the perfect snack or starter when you have it with one of Jason's outstanding cocktails (of which they always have a $5 special!). The decor is a warm contemporary feel and they always have great live music. Ask for Jesica, she is the best server ever!
